Even if you’re not attending the big car race on Saturday, you can still go out and enjoy some BBQ while looking at an authentic NASCAR car up close. The car that will be on location is Joey Logano’s #20 nationwide car.  If you are a fan of NASCAR there will also be authentic merchandise there for purchase.  However, if you’re only all about the BBQ then it’s still a great event to attend.

Grandpa Eddie’s will be roasting whole hogs 4-7 pm on Friday. They’re selling plates of the BBQ for $5 and it comes not only with the meat, but coleslaw and baked beans as well! Also, there will be chicken wings up for sale. Sometimes when we’re eating on a budget, the “value menu” can get boring.

About the Old Mill Room:

The epicurean heart of The Boar’s Head was built from the timbers of an abandoned gristmill along the banks of the Hardware River, which dated back to 1834. The relocation of the mill was an opportunity to preserve and transform a treasured Virginia artifact. It had survived burning despite the orders of Generals Grant and Custer during their march through Charlottesville in the Civil War. Indeed, it had continued to operate some 60 years after the war’s end.

Have you ever caught yourself indulging in reality cooking competition shows? Then you’ll love going out and  taste testing food created by chefs right here in Richmond at Saturday’s Shockoe Chef Showdown!

The 2nd Annual Shockoe Chef Showdown will be serving $2 dollar samples of each chef’s food creation at the 17th Street Farmers’ Market located in Shockoe Bottom. After judging takes place, the chefs will be selling their dishes in bulk at a price the chef chooses.

Samples will be on sale from 11 am to 1 pm, but the event lasts until 4 pm on August 1st. Parking and admission are both free.

There will also be a special Market Basket Competition, where chefs will be presented with a basket containing a market fresh “secret ingredient” straight from our very own market vendors. The chefs will then have one hour to compete “Iron Chef” style to create a dish based on the secret ingredient for judging.

Caroline County’s Mount Olympus Farm, located on Rt. 1 halfway between Richmond and Fredericksburg, is selling produce for half price on Mondays. The family-owned farm offers a huge variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables including delicious berries and fresh sweet corn. They also feature locally raised meats as well as milks and ice creams from a local dairy

MaggieMoo’s Ice Cream & Treatery has announced that on April 15, 2009 participating Treateries nationwide will reward customers with one free single-scoop of ice cream in honor of Tax Day. MaggieMoo’s will create its own “e-cone-omic” ice cream stimulus package for customers that will include MaggieMoo’s award-winning, super-premium ice cream. MaggieMoo’s is managed by NexCen Franchise Management, Inc., a subsidiary of NexCen Brands, Inc.

The nationwide ice cream social will take place throughout the day, and customers are encouraged to file-in-line at participating Treateries across the country.
