Come out and support the 27th Annual Teddy Bear Run with the Blue Knights of Richmond.  This is a great opportunity to make a child happy and help raise money for the Children’s Hospital. Last year, about 1,000 motorcycles brought more than 1,000 teddy bears to the Children’s Hospital. They also raised more than $20,000 to help support the Children’s Hospital.

Registration  begins at 9:30 am at Colonial Harley-Davidson and the ride starts at 1 pm to the Children’s Hospital. Food, bands, and of course hundreds of motorcycles will be at the event! If you want to test your luck you can also enter the drawing to win a Harley-Davidson Motorcycle.

“Fats” Waller, the comic and musical soul of 1930’s Harlem lives on in this rollicking, swinging, finger-snapping revue that is still considered one of Broadway’s best. The inimitable Thomas “Fats” rose to international fame during the Golden Age of the Cotton Club, honky tonk dives, stride piano players and that jumpin’ new beat, Swing. Although not quite a biography, Ain’t Misbehavin’ is a crowd pleasing, good times rollin’ winner. The show is a no-holds barred, non-stop entertainment, neo-vaudevillian romp thru the tunes of Fats Waller… each song tells a story and sets a scene… Our own Patti D’Beck directs and choreographs a versatile cast who strut, sing and swing the songs Fats made famous – Honeysuckle Rose, This Joint is Jumpin’, the wicked Ain’t Misbehavin’ and much, much more!

Director and choreographer Patti D’Beck’s latest projects include the smash hit revival of A Chorus Line at the Pioneer Theatre Co. in Salt Lake City, UT. Greater Richmond audiences will recall her recent successes including Thoroughly Modern Millie and Guys and Dolls (Barksdale Theatre) as well as the musical hits Chicago, Cabaret, Smokey Joe’s Cafe and The Civil War (Theatre VCU). Ms. D’Beck is a veteran of many Broadway musicals including the Broadway productions of Annie Get Your Gun, Bells Are Ringing, Grease!, The Will Rogers’ Follies, My One and Only, Evita, The Best Little in Texas, A Chorus Line, Pippin, Seesaw, Applause, and pre-Broadway original musical Easter Parade. She also choreographed the opening number for the 1997 Tony Awards for Rosie O’Donnell.

Ticket prices for general admission is $25, but if you’re a VCU student it’s only $10. Other ticket prices are any student (other than VCU) with ID $15 and VCU faculty/staff is $20. However if you can’t make out this Friday and are still interested, this isn’t the only showing available!

The 15th Annual Meadow Highland Games and Celtic Festival (formerly the Richmond Highland Games and Celtic Festival) will take place October 24-25, 2009, in Caroline County. These two days of “Music. Food. Large Men Throwing Stuff.”will include the following competitions:

• Heavy Athletics Competition
• Highland Dance Competition
• Piping & Drumming Competition
• Scottish & Irish Fiddle Competition

Even if you’re not attending the big car race on Saturday, you can still go out and enjoy some BBQ while looking at an authentic NASCAR car up close. The car that will be on location is Joey Logano’s #20 nationwide car.  If you are a fan of NASCAR there will also be authentic merchandise there for purchase.  However, if you’re only all about the BBQ then it’s still a great event to attend.

Grandpa Eddie’s will be roasting whole hogs 4-7 pm on Friday. They’re selling plates of the BBQ for $5 and it comes not only with the meat, but coleslaw and baked beans as well! Also, there will be chicken wings up for sale. This is the last show of the season for Innsbrook After Hours.
